At GBRS, we are proud of our honest and clear service, fixing 95% of appliance problems at your home or on-site. Some repairs need to be done in a workshop, so we can’t do those at home. We can quickly tell you if you have one of these repairs, so you get good, affordable advice.
Some appliance repairs need special tools and a workshop. But, our workshop is small, and we have limited staff. Also, moving the appliance without its original packaging could cause more damage.
These repairs can’t be done at home and need special tools in a workshop. Problems with drums and bearings, often caused by rust, foreign objects, or sand, make fixing these parts difficult. These issues can also lead to other problems in the washing machine, like additional leaks.
Some fridge repairs, like fixing leaks or replacing the refrigerant and compressor, need special tools that can only be used in a workshop. These repairs can’t be done safely at home. Sometimes, leaks are inside the fridge’s insulation, which can be hard to reach and may damage the fridge. Luckily, these problems don’t happen very often.
It’s rare for us to find repairs we don't handle, but it can happen. If we find that your appliance needs a repair we don’t cover, we will only charge the Service Call Fee, with no extra labour costs. This shows our promise to give you honest and fair service.
If you decide to have us help you replace the appliance, you won’t have to pay the Service Call Fee again.

Cost uncertainty can be a significant concern with appliance repairs. At Ginger Beard Repair Service, we address this concern head-on:
Completion Goal: Our goal is to complete an appliance repair within 1.5hrs.
Labour Cap: Some appliances have complex problems that can take longer to repair. However, we've capped our labour costs at a maximum of 2.5 hours per appliance.
Payment is due at the end of each visit. We accept the following payment methods:
Card and Tap. This is our preferred method of payment. We accept Visa, Master Card and American Express credit & debit cards and tap payments (eg payWave). There are NO PROCESSING FEES for this method. In fact, we offer 2.5% discount on labour if you pay by card in person.
Bank Transfer. You will find our banking details on the invoice we issue. We require a remittance or screenshot of the transfer emailed to us as proof of payment. Be sure to include the invoice number so we can track the payment.
Cash. Please let us know in advance, as we carry limited cash on hand.
Cheque. Please let us know in advance. Cheques also have a 5 minute labour processing fee.
If you have additional appliances to check or diagnose at the same place, then we are more than happy to work on those at the same time. Simply reply to your booking confirmation email with the appliance details and we will include them in the repair. This way, we do not add an additional Service Call Fee for extra appliances.
Each appliance has a 2.5hr labour cap.
TAKE NOTE: Please DO NOT create a second online booking for additional appliances. This confuses everyone and WILL add an additional Service Call Fee.
Truthfully, it depends. There are a number of factors to consider, and ultimately, the decision is yours. Here's what we think might help:
We believe it's often worth having a technician check your appliance. Sometimes the issue is external, like a blocked drain line, meaning replacing your appliance won't solve the issue. Other times, the problem is minor—a faulty drain pump or a burnt-out oven element. These are usually cost-effective to fix, even for entry-level appliances.
There are also broader benefits to repairing. Environmentally, extending the life of your appliance helps reduce waste and keeps one more item out of the landfill. And let's not forget the hassle factor—getting used to a new appliance can be a real pain. Plus, there's the time and effort of buying, replacing, and disposing of your old one if you decide to DIY (though if you do decide to replace it, we can help with that too).
On average, depending on the appliance and the repair required, the cost of repairs that we conduct are between 13% and 55% of the cost of a new appliance. Of course, it is perfectly fine to consider replacing your appliance if our diagnosis indicates that the repair may not be the cost effective way forward.

At The Ginger Beard Repair Service, we believe in the quality of our work. Every repair is more than just a fix—we check the whole appliance to make sure everything works properly. Because of this, we are proud to offer a Warranty on Repairs and Whole Appliance Care:
Our repairs carry a standard 12 month warranty. This includes the parts and the labour on the repair. The warranty covers reasonable and intended use but for the finer details, check our Terms & Condtions of Service.
Of course, when your appliance breaks down, one of the considerations for getting it repaired is “What if something else breaks a short time later?” This is why as part of repair process we test your whole appliance, and we won’t mark the repair as complete until it passes our tests. The tests can be found on our Terms & Conditions of Service page.
In addition to this, your appliance has a little extra cover in case another problem appears:
If a new problem develops with your appliance within 2 weeks of completing the repair, then we consider it a continuation of the original job. This means that:
No additional Service Call Fee is charged, and
The maximum labour charged is the remaining balance of our labour cap.
Sometimes, a new issue with your appliance might take a little longer to appear. If this happens within 4 weeks of completing the repair, then in that case:
No additional Service Call Fee is charged, and
The labour cap for the appliance is reset to 2.5hrs.

We have 2 main Service Areas. Here’s a simple explanation:
Our standard service area is practically anywhere within a 30-minute drive from our base in Fyshwick. We don’t charge any travel fees for jobs booked in this region.
If your location is more than 30 minutes away, up to 60 minutes from our Fyshwick base, we can still help, but there’s a small travel fee. This fee is based on the extra travel time after the first 30 minutes of travel, as calculated by Google Maps, rounded to the nearest 5 minutes.
For example, if you are 45 minutes from Fyshwick, you’ll only pay for the extra 15 minutes. The travel fee is the same as our labour rate.
These travel fees are separate from labour costs and don’t affect the labour cap.
We try our best to serve areas outside of Canberra, but please note that this may come with a travel fee and may take extra time to schedule because of the longer distance we need to travel. We appreciate your understanding as we work to give all our clients fast and effective service.
To keep our service quality high and respond quickly, we only serve areas within 60 minutes of our Fyshwick workshop. This helps us provide the great service you expect while using our resources wisely.
