Dishwasher Problems We Can Help With

Find the one that sounds like your machine. You don't need to work out the cause — telling us what you're seeing is enough for us to arrive prepared.

Water left in the bottom

Dirty water sitting in the base after a cycle, or the machine won't pump out at all.

Dishes still dirty

Food left on plates, gritty residue, or only part of the load coming out clean.

Won't start

No lights, no response to the buttons, or it beeps but never begins the cycle.

Not filling

No water entering the machine, or it fills so slowly the cycle never gets going.

Leaking

Water on the kitchen floor, seeping from the door, or pooling under the cabinetry.

Detergent not released

The dispenser door stays shut, or you find the tablet still sitting there at the end.

Spray arms not turning

Arms sitting still or barely moving, so the water never reaches the top rack.

Not heating

Cold water throughout, greasy dishes, or everything still soaking wet at the end.

Error code showing

A code or flashing light on the display. Tell us the code when you book — it helps us prepare.

Door won't latch

The door springs open, won't catch, or drops down instead of holding its position.

Grinding or humming

Harsh grinding during the wash, or a hum with no water actually moving.

Stops mid-cycle

The cycle stalls partway, never finishes, or the timer sits on the same reading for hours.

Smells, cloudy glassware or something you can't quite describe? Book the visit anyway — working out what's actually wrong is what the first appointment is for.

How It Works

What Happens at the Visit

1

Book a time

Choose a slot online and save 10% on the Service Call Fee. Tell us the make, model and what the machine is doing.

2

Know when we're coming

Confirmation email, a reminder the day before, a text when we're one job away, then live tracking on the way.

3

Diagnose the fault

The technician tests the machine, identifies what has failed and explains the cost before any repair work starts.

4

Repair or order parts

Many faults are finished on the spot. If a part is needed we order it and book a return visit — no second Service Call Fee.

5

Test and follow up

We run our dishwasher checks before closing the job, then follow up two weeks later to confirm all is well.

What we check before we call it finished

  • General check for leaks, pooling water or corrosion
  • Filter and drain ports clear of debris
  • The dishwasher drains
  • The dishwasher fills with water
  • The wash pump operates
  • The rotating spray arms operate
  • The detergent port opens
  • The water heats

Good to know about testing

  • A full programme can run well over two hours, so we use an accelerated functional test.
  • Some checks depend on others — the wash pump can't be tested until the machine is taking water.
  • Anything extra we find along the way gets shown to you and repaired within the same labour cap.

Repair Scope

What Helps Your Dishwasher Repair Go Smoothly

Nearly every dishwasher fault can be sorted out in your kitchen, and there's no list of dishwasher repairs we turn away. Two things are worth knowing in advance: how the machine is installed, and the rare repair that belongs on a workshop bench.

Worth a look before we arrive

Access to the machine

Most dishwashers are built in, and diagnosis needs the machine connected to power, water and drainage and usually slid out of its cabinetry. A quick check beforehand saves time on the day:

  • Kick panels or cabinetry that block the machine coming out need to come off first
  • A dishwasher that's been tiled in needs those tiles removed before we can service it
  • A machine on a plinth or wall takes two people to lift down — if nobody on site can assist, a second technician may be needed at additional labour

If the machine can't be fully diagnosed and tested on the day, the Service Call Fee and 30 minutes minimum labour still apply.

The rare exception

Workshop-level strip-downs

A small number of major repairs across all appliance types need a full bench strip-down rather than in-home work, and our Fyshwick workshop is set up for small portable appliances rather than dishwashers. It's uncommon on a dishwasher, but if your machine turns out to need that kind of work, we'll tell you what we found and what your options are.

Not sure what's wrong? That's normal, and it's not something you need to work out before booking. Book the visit as usual — diagnosing the fault is the job. Just make sure someone over 18 can let us in and that the machine is connected, and we'll take it from there.

Practical Repair Advice

Repair or Replace Your Dishwasher?

Dishwashers are worth checking before you replace them. Drain pumps, inlet valves, heating elements, door latches, filters and control faults are usually repairable for a fraction of the cost of a new machine — and capped labour means the repair bill can't run away from you.

Repair usually makes sense when

  • The tub, door and racks are in sound condition
  • The failed part is available and reasonably priced
  • The fault is in the pump, inlet valve, heater, latch, filter or controls
  • It's an integrated model matched to your cabinetry and door panel

Replacement may be the better call when

  • Parts are no longer available for the model
  • There's rust or corrosion through the tub or door
  • The part cost approaches the value of the machine
  • Several unrelated faults have appeared in a short time

One thing that's particular to dishwashers: if yours is integrated, the replacement has to fit the same cavity and usually needs the cabinetry door panel transferred across. That's worth factoring into the comparison, because it can make a repair on an otherwise sound machine the more sensible option.

We'll give you the honest answer once the machine has been diagnosed, not before. If replacement is the better option we can handle that too: buy from a Fyshwick retailer and we'll collect the new machine free as part of the service, install it, and take the old one and the packaging away. There's no second Service Call Fee when replacement follows a repair visit, and the installation carries a 12-month warranty.

One thing worth knowing: if we've recommended replacement but can still get the machine working, that particular repair isn't covered by our repair warranty. We'll always tell you when that's the situation before doing the work.

Before You Book

Dishwasher Repair Questions

Yes — freestanding, built-under, fully integrated machines and dish drawers. Integrated models just need a little more access: kick panels or cabinetry that stop the machine sliding out have to come off first, and if a dishwasher has been tiled in, those tiles need removing before we can service it. If the machine is mounted on a plinth or wall, two people are needed to lift it down safely.

Three things help. The dishwasher needs to be connected to power, water and drainage, or able to be connected, so it can be fully tested. Someone over 18 needs to be there to let us in, or a key left somewhere safe. And a method of payment needs to be available once the repair is done. It also helps if the machine is empty, though we can work around a load of dishes.

The initial visit is the Service Call Fee of $150 plus minimum labour of $100, which covers the first 30 minutes on site. Book online and you save 10% on the Service Call Fee. Labour past the first 30 minutes is $16.67 per 5 minutes, and labour is capped at 2.5 hours per appliance. Parts are charged separately and always quoted before we fit them.

Often we can finish on the first visit — blocked filters and drain lines, some pump and inlet valve faults, and door latch problems are commonly sorted on the spot. If a part has to be ordered, we book a return visit to fit it. There's no second Service Call Fee on a return visit, only minimum labour of $100. If you already know exactly which part your machine needs, tell us when you book and we can order it ahead of the appointment.

Almost certainly. Water left sitting in the base is one of the most common dishwasher faults we see, and checking that the filter and drain ports are clear and that the machine actually drains is part of our standard testing on every dishwasher. What's behind it varies — a blockage, the drain pump, or the waste line — which is what the diagnosis sorts out.

Usually, yes — but we'll give you the honest answer once it's diagnosed rather than before. Drain pumps, inlet valves, heating elements, latches and control faults are typically worth fixing on a machine that's otherwise sound. Rust through the tub, discontinued parts or several unrelated faults at once point the other way. If yours is integrated, remember a replacement has to fit the same cavity and usually needs the door panel transferred, which often makes repair the better value.

Almost all of them. We're authorised service agents for Fisher & Paykel, Haier, Hisense, esatto, Solt, Inalto, Omega, Artusi, Franke and Teka. We also work through national repair and warranty companies on brands including LG, Bosch, Westinghouse, Euromaid, Bellini, Technika, Baumatic, Stirling and Akai, and we service machines from brands including Miele, Smeg, NEFF and Samsung. If your brand isn't listed we can usually still help, as long as parts are available.

Completed repairs carry a 12-month warranty on the parts and labour for that repair. The warranty starts from the date of the final invoice and is in effect once that invoice has been paid, and it includes a minimum two-week monitoring period to confirm the dishwasher performs as intended. There's also limited cover for new faults that appear soon after: within 2 weeks we repair them for the cost of parts and labour within the remaining labour cap, and between 2 and 4 weeks the labour cap resets with no new Service Call Fee. Full conditions are in our Terms & Conditions of Service.

It happens, particularly with intermittent faults — testing can only find what isn't working at the time we're there. Some checks also depend on each other, so while the original fault is present, later stages can't always be tested. If we're called back under warranty and the fault can't be reproduced, the Service Call Fee and a minimum 30 minutes of labour apply.

The quickest way to find out is to make an online booking, which shows live availability. When we have a gap we can sometimes attend within a couple of hours of booking. Jobs with extra requirements, such as travel outside our normal range, are scheduled by our admin team. More general questions are answered in our FAQ.
