From Our Job Notes

Repairs We’ve Carried Out in Gungahlin

A few real jobs from Gungahlin homes — what the customer noticed, what was actually wrong, and how it was fixed.

CHiQ washing machine, Ngunnawal

What the customer saw: The door seal was damaged and water was leaking from the door.

What we found: The door seal was torn.

What we did: Replaced the door seal and tested filling, washing, draining and spinning, including checks for leaks.

Bosch dishwasher, Palmerston

What the customer saw: The dishwasher displayed the tap symbol after running for a while.

What we found: The Aquastop inlet assembly was not opening properly to let water into the dishwasher.

What we did: Replaced the Aquastop assembly and tested filling, washing, heating and draining, with no leaks.

Euromaid dishwasher, Jacka

What the customer saw: The dishwasher was not draining, with water left inside and flooding from underneath.

What we found: The drain spigot had not been drilled out properly, and blockages in the spray arms were restricting their movement.

What we did: Drilled out the drain spigot, cleared the spray arms and ran a quick cycle, confirming drainage, spray-arm operation and heating.

Hisense fridge, Bonner

What the customer saw: Ice kept building up, and the fridge needed manually defrosting more and more often.

What we found: Testing traced the ice build-up to a faulty left-hand freezer defrost element.

What we did: Replaced the defrost element and checked fridge and freezer cooling and the defrost system. The refrigerator tested OK.

Fisher & Paykel dryer, Nicholls

What the customer saw: The dryer would not start spinning with a light load.

What we found: The motor capacitor measured 2.2 microfarads against its rated 7.

What we did: Replaced the capacitor and tested starting, spinning, warm and hot air, and the timer. The dryer tested OK.

Blanco oven, Franklin

What the customer saw: The oven heated on grill but not on the fan-forced setting.

What we found: The fan element had warped out of shape.

What we did: Replaced the fan element, tested the oven on the fan setting and checked the top element. The oven tested OK.
