From Our Job Notes

Repairs We’ve Carried Out in Woden Valley

A few real jobs from Woden Valley homes — what the customer noticed, what was actually wrong, and how it was fixed.

AEG washing machine, Curtin

What the customer saw: The washing machine paused mid-cycle with a check-water message, wasn’t drawing in fabric softener, and leaked at the rear water hose.

What we found: The water inlet valve was restricted, and the inlet hose connection was loose.

What we did: Tightened the hose connection and replaced the inlet valve. The machine filled to the correct level and passed its operating checks.

Euromaid dishwasher, O’Malley

What the customer saw: The new dishwasher displayed an error and couldn’t run a cycle.

What we found: The flowmeter in the water tank was faulty, so the dishwasher kept filling until it was overfull.

What we did: Replaced the water tank with its flowmeter and ran a cycle. The dishwasher filled to the correct level each time, its other functions worked and there were no leaks.

Simpson dryer, Garran

What the customer saw: The dryer switched off during use and became very hot.

What we found: The rear fan belt had snapped.

What we did: Replaced the fan belt and tested the dryer. It heated and had good airflow.

Fisher & Paykel fridge, Mawson

What the customer saw: The fridge tripped the circuit breaker.

What we found: The defrost heater in the right-hand freezer compartment had an electrical leak to earth.

What we did: Replaced the defrost heater and switched the fridge on. The circuit breaker didn’t trip during testing.

Franke oven, Pearce

What the customer saw: The oven fan made a strange noise.

What we found: The oven’s cooling fan was squeaking.

What we did: Replaced the cooling fan and tested the oven. The cooling fan sounded normal.

Smeg rangehood, Chifley

What the customer saw: The rangehood was noisy on every fan speed.

What we found: The fan motor was faulty.

What we did: Replaced the fan motor and tested every fan speed. There was no unusual noise, and the lights worked.

Examples from individual jobs. Similar symptoms can have different causes; diagnosis confirms the repair required.

Yes — every suburb in the valley, from Curtin and Hughes through to Isaacs, O’Malley and Torrens. The full list is under Do We Service Your Suburb?

No. All of Woden Valley is within about 30 minutes of our Fyshwick base, so there’s no travel fee and you can book online with live availability.

Yes. If your building has an intercom or secure entry, add a mobile number and any access instructions to your booking — if the buzzer isn’t reliable, say so and we’ll call on arrival. If we can’t get in or reach you, the visit has to be rebooked.

Often, yes. If a part has to be ordered, we book a return visit to fit it, with no second Service Call Fee — only minimum labour. If you already know which part your appliance needs, tell us when you book and we can order it ahead of the appointment.

No. Washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, dryers, ovens, cooktops and rangehoods are repaired in your home. Only portable appliances — microwaves, vacuums, air fryers and similar — come to our Fyshwick workshop, under our small appliance repair service.

Usually, yes — but tell us when you book. To test or repair a built-in dishwasher we often need to slide it out of its cavity, and some kitchens make that hard: we’ve found kick panels glued or siliconed to the floor and surrounding cabinetry, and stone benchtops that stop the dishwasher being secured. Where a panel is fixed in place, a cabinet maker or handyman may need to remove it before we can do the repair. The same goes for a dryer stacked on or mounted above the washing machine — lifting it down can take two people, so knowing in advance lets us plan the visit.

Yes. We repair appliances in rental properties across Woden Valley on behalf of property managers, and arrange access with the tenant directly. See appliance repairs for property managers.
